Learn More About Our Stone Bathroom Worktops & Surfaces

Where can stone be used in bathrooms?

Stone is a good choice for bathroom surfaces as it is durable and water resistant. Common uses include vanity units, bathroom worktops, upstands and splashbacks, bath tops and surrounds, wetroom and shower wall cladding, shelves and windowsills. We also create and install custom stone surfaces for commercial bathrooms, hotels, spas and other washroom spaces.

Yes. For more than 25 years, LBS Stone has been fabricating and installing stone bathroom worktops and surfaces for all kinds of commercial projects and customers. We can fulfil projects of all sizes and examples of past projects include washrooms for national restaurant chains, spa and gym shower rooms and luxury bathrooms for hotels. Our team provides full project support from design and stone sourcing to fabrication and installation services. Contact us today to discuss your project.

Choosing the best type of stone for bathroom surfaces depends on your style, budget and how the bathroom will be used. Quartz countertops are a popular choice because they are non-porous, easy to clean and available in many styles, including natural stone effects. Porcelain and ceramic are excellent materials for wetrooms and shower wall cladding because they are highly durable and water resistant. Granite is a strong natural stone option, while marble and quartzite are often chosen for their natural veining and luxury look. For busy family bathrooms, quartz, porcelain and granite are durable and are well suited to heavy use while marble and quartzite are perfect if luxury is your primary objective.

Yes. Quartz, porcelain and ceramic surfaces are non-porous and waterproof. Porous natural stones such as marble, granite and quartzite are water resistant when sealed, and they will need to be resealed every 1-2 years depending on the types of stone to maintain their water resistance. We apply a professional stone sealer to natural stone surfaces as part of the fabrication and fabrication process. Our team can advise on care and resealing for your chosen material.

Natural stone bathroom worktops and surfaces such as marble, granite and quartzite are naturally porous and do require sealing. Quartz, porcelain and ceramic surfaces are non-porous and do not need sealed. We apply a professional grade sealant to all natural stone surfaces as part of our fabrication process. The sealant protects the stone from moisture, staining and marks. Natural stone will need to be resealed periodically. Resealing is a simple process and is usually required every 1-2 years depending on the type of stone and the amount of use your surfaces are subjected to. Our team will be happy to provide advise on the sealing schedule, how to apply the sealant, and the best type of sealant for your specific stone.

Yes, natural stone, quartz, and porcelain are all suitable for cladding wetrooms and shower walls. Porcelain and quartz stone are non-porous, do not require sealing and are easy to care for. Granite, marble and quartzite are also suitable for use in showers, but they must be sealed and require a little extra care and resealing every 1-2 years.

Important note about stone wall cladding

Before we can measure or install stone shower wall cladding, the walls must be flat, plumb and a waterproof tanking system must also have be installed by your builder or bathroom contractor. The walls must also be constructed to accommodate the weight of the stone.

That depends on the size and layout of your stone. Often vanity tops, splashbacks, shower wall cladding and bath surrounds can be made from a single slab of stone. Where joints are required, we use special colour-matched resins to create very fine waterproof seams that are significantly less noticeable than grout lines.

Yes. We can create custom cut-outs and holes for taps, surface mounted basins, undermount basins and semi-recessed basins. We can also create holes in splashbacks for features such as bathroom fittings and wall lights. Just tell us what you need, and we will create it for you.

Yes. We can produce stone bathroom worktops for bespoke built-in and freestanding vanity units. The vanity unit must be fully constructed and fitted in its final position for us to take accurate measurements. We can also produce stone worktops for standard “off-the-shelf” fitted and freestanding bathroom furniture and vanity units.

Yes. Matching stone details ties everything together and will elevate your bathroom design. We can make a variety of stone surfaces and finishing details including bath tops, surrounds, side panels, splashbacks, upstands, shelves, windowsills, architraves and other stone details in your choice of matching or contrasting stone.

Exposed edges of our bathroom worktops and surfaces are routed and polished for a neat and attractive finish. We offer a variety of architectural edge profile finishes to suit both modern and traditional bathrooms, from simple pencil, mitered and beveled edges to decorative profiles such as Ogee and Dupont which can also be stacked for a deeper and more luxurious look. You can view examples of the edge detailing options we offer on our website and at our showroom

Yes. We provide a complete stone measuring and installation service for homeowners, trade customers and commercial projects throughout the UK. Templating and installation are carried out by our dedicated in-house team (we do not use any 3rd party contractors). A key benefit of our measuring service is the laser technology we use to create detailed digital templates. These digital files are fed directly to our computerised saws, routers and waterjet cutters, ensuring accuracy and efficient use of the stone. Our installation team have many years of experience and use professional grade adhesives and colour matched resin jointing compounds to ensure a perfect fit. This is why the great majority of our customers opt for our measuring and installation service. We also offer a supply-only service with nationwide delivery for trade and retail customers.
