EXCELLENT Based on 52 reviews Posted on Elizabeth PriceTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic experience with LBS Stone. They were always incredibly helpful and professional, providing perfect stone and marble surfaces and surrounds for a number of rooms, all cut and finished to perfection.Posted on Bruce McNicolTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great advice and service! We have used LBS twice in recent months. They provided beautiful tile and marble from their "offcuts" which act as shelves in our refurbished bathroom and shower. They add a real quality feel to the rooms and of course are incredibly hard wearing. Many thanks, Marcus and the team, for going the extra mile and making it all so easy!Posted on Julia VarelaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is my 3rd project with LBS. Great range of materials and lots to see in showroom. Everyone is super helpful and very professional; from enquiry to fitting.Posted on Angie PeskettTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a great local company, so pleased we came across them. Marcus spent a lot of time with us deciding on which product to choose and he was also very patient with me!! Shane the surveyor was really helpful, our kitchen was a little uneven so he advised we needed to sort some things out first, which we did and our quartz worktop was fitted the week after. The installation team Ash and Luke were brilliant and very tidy. There was a lot of back and forth communication with Marcus as I changed my mind but nothing was to much trouble. I would definitely recommend LBS for their professionalism, support and their products. My photos don't do the worktop justice unfortunately.Posted on steve crossTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fantastic local business, with a great range of products and excellent customer service. Marcus helped steer us to the perfect choice of material for our kitchen work surface. Competitive prices, professional installation team and great after-sales service. Only wish I had another kitchen to do !!!! Thanks all. Really pleased with end resultPosted on Nick ProbinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had our new quartz kitchen and utility worktops fitted a couple of months ago and are extremely pleased. We met with Lawrence several months before to discuss the various options and were pleased to have found a local business who could fulfil our needs with a wide variety of choices. Service was always professional and polite and the actual fitting done to an extremely high standard.Posted on Susan ThomasTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great service and selection at LBS stone. We borrowed some samples which really helped confirm our choice. The laser templating was very impressive with amazing attention to detail. We chose a lambs tongue edge for our grade 2 property not wishing to look too modern. Also our work top is eco friendly made in Germany with low silica content which is something we were concerned about. Marcus and Lawrence spent time discussing options with no pressure.Posted on Martin PhillipsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What is marble and what styles are available?
Marble is a natural quarried stone formed from limestone subjected to high pressure and temperatures over millions of years. This crystallisation process results in a dense and aesthetically pleasing material featuring unique veined or swirling patterns. Primarily made up of calcium carbonate, marble boasts a smooth texture and brilliant shine when polished.
The stone’s veining and colour patterns vary significantly from slab to slab, making each marble effect truly one-of-a-kind. The most common colour combination is white with grey veining, including well-known Italian Carrara and Arabescato marbles. Meanwhile, Calacatta is another best-selling white-based marble with strong veining and broader colour variations.
On top of that, you’ll also find warmer beige and brown tones like Breccia Sarda. As well as dramatic black hues with white veins such as Grigio Carnico, and vivid hues like Guatemala Green. Plus red, orange and blue tones, all depending on the mineral deposits within.
Is marble a good choice for kitchen worktops?
Marble is a beautiful natural stone, and it is well suited for use as worktops and splashbacks. But it is important to understand marble before you decide if real marble, or a marble effect quartz or porcelain alternative is right for you.
As a natural stone, marble is porous and requires sealing to resist water and stains. Marble is also one of the softer natural stones and can be susceptible to scratching and staining if not maintained and cared for.
With time, marble will develop a unique and subtle patina, and for many people this is part of the appeal. Some people may prefer the look of real marble, but with the added durability and lower maintenance of a marble effect quartz or porcelain alternative. Engineered surfaces such as Silestone quartz and Dekton ceramic are highly realistic and are often better suited to busy family kitchens and bathrooms.
The key is to understand the material, what you want from your stone surfaces, and the alternatives. This is where LBS Stone can help. We will discuss your needs and show you a variety of marble and marble effect material choices, providing expert advice to help you make the best choice for your style and needs. Visiting our showroom in Storrington is recommended, you can see example stone worktops, view a huge range of stone samples and get expert and impartial advice from our team.
What can marble be used for?
We fabricate bespoke marble surfaces for many uses, but here are some popular applications
- Kitchen worktops, islands and breakfast bars
- Bathroom vanity countertops
- Splashbacks for kitchen or bathroom sinks
- Luxury shower areas and bath surrounds
- Feature wall cladding
- Hearths and fire surrounds
Are marble countertops durable?
Marble is a softer stone than granite or quartz and a little less resistant to to chips and scratches. However, marble worktops stand up well to typical use well if they are cleaned and maintained. Spills a and food should be wiped up quickly to prevent marble staining. Most importantly, the surface should be sealed twice a year to maintain its stain resistance. If you like the look of marble, but are put off by having to seal it, modern quartz and porcelain alternatives are now highly realistic.
How do I clean and maintain marble worktops?
For daily cleaning, we recommend wiping down marble countertops with a damp microfibre cloth and wipe up spills quickly to prevent stains. You can use mild washing up liquid diluted in warm water or a pH-neutral stone cleaner to clean marble, but do not use harsh chemicals or cleaning pads. Rinse away soap residue with a soft damp cloth when you’re done and don’t forget to dry the surface with a soft clean towel. If left to air dry, the marble may appear dull later.
The key is to avoid harsh cleaning products like vinegar or ammonia that could damage the finish. Just mop up spills as quickly as you can, then try one of the above methods. Likewise, avoid abrasive scourers as these may leave scratches or even strip some of the sealant.
Although marble offers a good degree on heat resistance, it is susceptible to cracking through thermal shock. For this reason, it is recommended that hot pans and countertop cooking appliances, such as slow cookers and air fryers, should be sat on insulated surface protectors or raised trivets.

Are there any alternatives to natural marble?
Love the look of marble but put off by the upkeep that marble countertops and splashbacks require? Then you’re in luck! There are now many manmade alternatives including sintered stone surfaces such as Dekton and marble effect quartz to choose from. These highly authentic alternatives to real marble mimic natural veining and come in numerous colours, but are specially engineered to be non-porous and scratch resistant for ease – ideal for busy family kitchens and bathrooms!
Is onyx a form of marble?
Whilst marble and onyx share similar mineral content, they are not the same type of stone. Marble is a metamorphic rock created from limestone that has been put under immense heat and pressure beneath the Earth. This results in crystallisation and any impurities like iron oxides or mica can impact its colours and patterns. Onyx is also made up of mostly calcite. However, it is a sedimentary rock that forms in layers as stalactites and stalagmites within caves.
